The Amunokinos Women’s Development Savings Group in Apeduru sub-county in Amuria district is spearheading a unique initiative to encourage its members to become homeowners. The group purchases 18 iron sheets for one member out of its 32 participants every month, facilitating the construction of their homes.

This month, Vicky Ilobu became the beneficiary, receiving her iron sheets at her residence in Aminit village, Aridai parish, Kapelebyong district. The savings group actively contributes to the home construction process by pooling approximately 500,000 Ugandan shillings monthly through mandatory savings and gifts for each member.

Esther Aeso, the vice-chairperson of the savings group, revealed that since its inception on February 1, 2023, a total of 11 members have already benefitted from the initiative. Vicky Ilobu, a nurse by profession, expressed her gratitude to the group, emphasizing how it has facilitated the realization of her dream to build a house for her parents.

Andrew Eedu, another member, highlighted that the group was established with the specific goal of aiding members in constructing their houses by providing essential materials such as iron sheets and offering additional support.
