Stanbic Bank has pledged a three-year sponsorship package valued at UGX 100 million to revive the Entebbe Golf Open, a popular tournament last held before the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made on October 24th in Kampala, with the bank obtaining naming rights for the championship, which will now be known as the Stanbic Entebbe Open.
The tournament, set to take place from November 1st to 4th, will encompass both professional and amateur golfers, and a special six-hole challenge will be organized for media practitioners.
Arthur Kiwanuka, the Head of Affluent Banking at Stanbic Bank, expressed the bank’s excitement about partnering with the Entebbe Golf Club to bring back the Entebbe Open, an event that had to be halted due to the pandemic. This collaboration aligns with the bank’s goal of contributing to Uganda’s growth by supporting sports, nurturing talent, and contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
Sserwano Walusimbi, the Entebbe Club Captain, welcomed Stanbic Bank’s sponsorship and emphasized the significance of the return of the prestigious Entebbe Open after its last occurrence in 2019. He acknowledged the importance and respect the championship holds.
Isaac Ajiji, the Trade Marketing Manager at Stanbic Bank, explained that the bank’s brand sponsorships are targeted at areas that matter to its customers. Golf is a sport cherished by their affluent clientele, making the bank’s involvement in the revival of the popular golf championship a meaningful endeavor. The Stanbic Entebbe Open not only supports and nurtures future golf talents but also strengthens the bank’s commitment to engage with its valued customers and cultivate new partnerships.
Ajiji also expressed optimism about the growing interest in golf among Ugandans, suggesting that this support can pave the way for local golf talent to regularly participate in regional and international golf tournaments.
