In December 2023, Uganda’s annual inflation rate remained constant at 2.6%, with various consumer goods maintaining consistent prices during the assessment period. Aliziki Lubega, the Director of Economic Statistics at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, observed a mixed trend in product categories, where some prices declined due to seasonal factors, while others experienced increases.

Despite facing lingering effects from the earlier stages of the pandemic, the overall inflationary trend in Uganda has shown signs of easing throughout the year. Aliziki Lubega emphasized the presence of both decreasing and increasing price trends in the market, contributing to the overall stability observed in December.

The core inflation rate, a key indicator, settled at 2.3% in December, compared to the 2% reported in November 2023. This data reflects a modest increase, suggesting a subtle shift in inflationary pressures within the specified timeframe.
