Outstanding Contributions Recognized at ICPAU Accountancy Service Awards 2023
Established in 2015 by ICPAU, the annual Accountancy Service Awards aim to recognize excellence in the accounting sector and honor those who have contributed significantly to the profession in Uganda and beyond.

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) recently held its Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) for 2023. These awards acknowledged individuals, organizations, and companies for their exceptional performance throughout the year.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the ICPAU Gold Service Award to CPA Japheth Katto. Katto received this prestigious award for his outstanding contributions to the profession, including his long-standing membership with ICPAU, his service on various committees, and his dedication to promoting good corporate governance practices.

CPA Katto, who was also recently appointed to the Board of the Central Bank, emphasized the importance of voluntary service and urged fellow accountants to contribute not only to their profession but also to their communities.

Another notable winner was CPA Sarah Muzungyo Chelangat, who received the CPA of the Year Award. Chelangat was recognized for her role as a model of professional conduct and technical proficiency, her active participation in ICPAU events, and her advocacy for the recruitment of qualified accountants in various workplaces.

In the category of Young Accountant of the Year, CPA Charles Busingye from Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited emerged victorious. Busingye’s exceptional performance in multiple papers and his innovative approach to business transformation earned him this award.

The finance team at the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) won the Finance Team of the Year Award for their commitment to internal controls, compliance, and ethical standards. Ardenfield was named the Accounting Firm of the Year for their continuous improvement and expansion of services.

The Unique Humanitarian Service Award was presented to Rtn. Steven Mwanje for his contributions to the fight against cancer in Uganda. Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) received the Institutional Partner Award for their support and compliance with the Accountant’s Act, 2013.

Additionally, the inaugural Members’ Regional Network of the Year Award went to the CPA Uganda Mid-Eastern Regional Network, based in Mbale, for their promotion of the CPA brand and unity among members in the region.

During the ceremony, guest of honor Don Wanyama commended accountants for upholding professionalism and encouraged them to continue serving their communities selflessly.
