The Kampala Metropolitan Police in the suburb of Natete have apprehended individuals suspected of damaging road security lights, signals, and bridge metals along the Northern Bypass in Namungoona, Masanafu.
The intensive investigation leading to these arrests was prompted by earlier reports of vandalism. On January 10, 2024, at approximately 5:00 am, Umar Kitimbwa was caught red-handed with metals he had allegedly cut from a bridge near Masanafu roundabout on Sentema Road. Kitimbwa’s arrest marked the beginning of a comprehensive operation against the perpetrators.
Following his detention at Masanafu Police Post, Kitimbwa was later transferred to Nateete Police Division. During interrogation, he revealed the identities of his accomplices as Moze, Kanyankore, and Daugalas, who reside in a swamp near Masanafu roundabout. While Kanyankore was successfully apprehended, Moze and Daugalas remain at large.
Kitimbwa also disclosed the locations where stolen metals and security lights solar batteries were sold, specifically Nansana Katooke and Kisenyi in Kampala town, opposite Usafi Taxi Park.
In response, a coordinated operation conducted at 11:00 pm resulted in the seizure of more exhibits, including metals and security lights solar batteries, from Katooke Zone A in Wakiso district and Kisenyi in Kampala, respectively.
The operation led to the arrest of numerous suspects, including James Muwanguzi, the owner of the store where the stolen batteries were recovered, and Abigaba Jonan, an employee at the Katooke scrap store where metals were found.
The individuals currently in custody include Takeaway Obedi, Sanyuka Eric, Obama John Paul, Ainembabazi Junior, Mukasa Monday, Kalangi Bashir, Mukhumuza Wilson, Byashiza Edward, Emmanuel Sunday, Kaganda Elasto, Mugalasi Shabani, Alinaitwe Muwahamadi, Ssebunya Pade, Mpungu Rashid, and Mujuni Evalyne.
