The Katonga bridge, a vital link on an international highway connecting Uganda to Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has been reopened after being destroyed by flash floods in May. The restoration and upgrade were carried out by the Chinese Communications Construction Company (CCCC).
Allan Ssempebwa, the communications officer at Uganda National Roads Authority, confirmed the reopening of the bridge on Friday. He explained that the decision to engage CCCC was based on their reputation for quick and efficient work, citing their previous successful projects in Uganda.
The CCCC utilized modern technology to construct a steel bridge in the shortest possible time, ensuring it can accommodate all types of vehicles. Ssempebwa emphasized the significance of the road, highlighting its role in connecting Uganda with neighboring countries in the region.
