As the commencement of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit approaches, final preparations are underway at the Speke Resort Convention Centre Munyonyo. The venue, which officially opens its doors on Monday, January 15, is set to host a gathering of 120 countries and observers, expecting an influx of approximately 5,000 delegates for the NAM summit, followed by the G77 summit.
Chairman of the Ruparelia Group and co-founder of the mega project, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, dedicated his time on Thursday to oversee the last-minute touches at the convention center. The facility, developed through Sudhir’s subsidiaries, Speke Hotels, and Meera Investments, has been under construction since November 2022, with assurances that it would be ready by January 2024.
The main auditorium boasts a capacity ranging from 3,800 to 4,400 delegates, complemented by a multipurpose hall, 12 high-end conference and breakaway meeting rooms, and a floating restaurant accommodating over 900 people. The government of Uganda, through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC), is executing the joint project on a 50-50 partnership with Sudhir’s enterprises.
The expansive resort, nestled on 105 acres, features 476 hotel rooms, including 54 presidential suites. Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, actively involved in the final preparations, was seen attending to visitors and clients, with the venue adorned with glittering expensive lamps at the main entrance and within the building.
Workers diligently ensured all arrangements were in order for the upcoming events, with journalists granted the opportunity to capture the exterior images. However, due to ongoing interior work, access to the building will be allowed for visitors starting Saturday, closer to the event kick-off.
Adjacent to Speke Resort, workers planted trees and installed solar-powered lamps along the Kampala Entebbe Expressway, the primary route for the arriving delegates. The meticulous preparations aim to provide a seamless and impressive experience for participants and attendees during the NAM and G77 summits.
