The Chairman of the Butcher Association in Kampala, Musa Ssenabulya, has cautioned butchers not to raise meat prices excessively as the festive season approaches. Ssenabulya emphasized the challenging economic conditions for everyone and urged for fair pricing.
He stressed the importance of professionalism among butchers, stating that it goes beyond words and requires commitment from the farm to the consumer’s plate. Ssenabulya highlighted the significance of vigilance and security in animal care to ensure quality and food safety. He insisted that every carcass leaving the abattoir must carry the official veterinary stamp certifying its quality and safety.
While expressing concerns about anthrax outbreaks in specific regions like Rakai and Kyotera, Ssenabulya announced the establishment of checkpoints to prevent meat from affected areas reaching consumers. He also cautioned against illegal makeshift butchers and called on the public to stay vigilant.
Despite the challenges, Ssenabulya appealed for understanding, emphasizing the industry’s dedication to delivering safe and quality meat to consumers.
