The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, praised the Ruparelia Group for their outstanding work in preparing the Convention Centre at Munyonyo for the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77+China summits. Mrs. Museveni expressed her appreciation for the group’s attention to detail and level of preparedness during her recent visit to the Speke Resort in Munyonyo. While commending the high standards, she emphasized the importance of continuous checks on all amenities to ensure they remain in excellent working condition not only for the summits but also in the future.

The Uganda Government, in collaboration with the Ruparelia Group, has invested substantial funds to construct a modern conference facility for the NAM and G77+China summits. Mrs. Museveni highlighted that hosting successful international events demonstrates Uganda’s commitment to showcasing its best and providing guests with the warmth and hospitality for which the nation is known.

The NAM summit, featuring hundreds of delegates from 120 states, 18 observer countries, and 10 observer organizations, will conclude on January 20. Following this, the G77+China summit is scheduled from January 20 to January 23. Uganda’s admission to NAM dates back to the 2nd Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Cairo, Egypt, in 1964. The Non-Aligned Movement serves as a forum for 120 countries not formally aligned with any major power bloc, founded to advance the interests of developing countries during the Cold War confrontation.
