Dfcu Bank’s investment in the Rising Woman Initiative winners’ businesses has reached Shs120 million since its inception in 2018.
Ten women entrepreneurs from the sixth edition of the Rising Woman Initiative, organized by Nation Media Group Uganda (NMG-U), dfcu Bank, Uganda Investment Authority, and Uganda Airlines, are embarking on a week-long mentorship trip to Nairobi, Kenya.
Selected through a rigorous proposal writing competition, the winners receive cash prizes of Shs15 million, Shs10 million, and Shs5 million for the top three, respectively, along with an all-expenses-paid mentorship trip, while the remaining seven benefit from the trip.
Before their departure from dfcu Bank’s offices in Kampala, Ms. Kate Kiiza, dfcu’s executive director, emphasized the importance of learning from other businesses to enhance their own, urging the entrepreneurs to seize the opportunity to improve and network.
Ms. Susan Nsibirwa, NMG-U’s managing director, emphasized the significance of empowering women in business, highlighting the challenges they face and the opportunities such initiatives offer to broaden their experiences.
Ms. Ruth Asasira, head of Women in Business at dfcu Bank, encouraged the entrepreneurs to consider expanding their businesses beyond Uganda, leveraging market linkages and networking opportunities provided by the trip.
Ms. Sylvia Kaggwa, sales manager at Uganda Airlines, pledged support for women entrepreneurs, facilitating exports to countries like South Sudan.
