Pivoting in Heels, an initiative aimed at acknowledging women’s achievements, has introduced a Coffee Table Book that spotlights the accomplishments and influence of prominent businesswomen in Uganda.
Uganda has seen a substantial increase in women-led businesses, estimated to have grown by 25% in the past decade, as per a 2020 report. The purpose of the book is to capture the essence of this significant shift.
The launch event is expected to draw over 150 attendees from Uganda and neighboring countries, emphasizing the growing recognition of women’s roles in African businesses. Reports indicate that Ugandan women currently lead in 40% of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Titled “Reimagining Connections: Navigating Change in a Digital World,” the book is designed to resonate within a business landscape where digital transformation is crucial. Recent data shows that 35% of women-led businesses in Uganda have fully integrated digital solutions, emphasizing the relevance of the book’s theme.
The distinguished Professor Maggie Kigozi, associated with Crown Beverages and the Uganda Investment Authority, is set to deliver a keynote speech focusing on market challenges and digital innovations led by women. Her insights are particularly pertinent as Uganda continues its push towards a digital economy, aiming for a 50% digitization rate by 2025.
Remmie Male, Country Director of Pivoting in Heels, Uganda, highlighted the business aspect of the event, stating, “In an economy increasingly influenced by women, it’s vital to spotlight their successes. We’re honored to have the endorsement of Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the First Lady, a testament to the national significance of our project.”
The launch is scheduled to take place at Le Chateau Quality Hill hotel on 17th October 2023. With ticket prices designed to appeal to a broad business audience, it also highlights the event’s economic impact and potential networking opportunities.
Kenneth Agutamba, representing Stanbic Bank, which saw a 30% increase in women-led corporate accounts in 2022, commended the initiative, stating, “Women are pivotal in Uganda’s economic roadmap. We’re proud to be part of an initiative that underscores their contributions.”
In acknowledgment of the bank’s efforts in gender inclusivity, the book will feature a section dedicated to the women driving the ‘Stanbic for her’ project, echoing the bank’s commitment to supporting women in business. This Coffee Table Book symbolizes a significant step in recognizing and celebrating the growing presence of women in Uganda’s business sector.
