The Commander of the Three Special Forces Group, Col Wilson Bagonza, has thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his continued support towards the training and equipping of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

“I thank our Commander-in-Chief, Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for all we are doing. He’s the originator and actively participates in supporting our training efforts to ensure we are well-equipped,” Col Bagonza said.

Col Bagonza applauded the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for “his tremendous efforts in professionalizing not only SFC but the entire UPDF.”

He made the remarks on Monday, June 23, 2025, while officiating at the opening of the 3rd Special Forces Command (SFC) inter-unit rifle competition at Fort Samora Machel Training School in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District.

Col Bagonza emphasized that the competition aims to improve soldier performance, discipline, and teamwork.

“You might not be the best, but you have been given this opportunity and baptized in the name of being the best. Defend that name and excel,” he stated.

This year’s competition has drawn 11 teams from four SFC formations and includes challenges such as hostage rescue, long-range rifle shooting, pistol drills, and direct action exercises. It is designed to improve combat skills, cooperation, and confidence among soldiers.

“Each of us should be your friend’s keeper during this period. Compete with confidence and friendship for brotherhood to prevail,” he added.

Lt Col. Beyendera Edison, the commandant of Fort Samora Machel Training School, said the competition is more than just shooting.

“It’s a celebration of discipline, precision, and commitment,” he said.

Col Paul Lokut, the Director of Training and Doctrine – SFC, described the competition as a reflection of the core missions of Special Forces around the world.

“From direct action to unconventional warfare, these are tasks expected of Special Forces. I urge all teams to meet the challenge with discipline,” he said.

The event was attended by several commanding officers, trainers, and officials from the Special Forces Command.
