As part of the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) hosted by Uganda, Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, and her Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, led conference delegates on a guided tour of the Parliament building.
During the tour, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa provided insights, including details about the West Wing of the Parliament Building, which currently houses the President’s Office. The tour included visits to the Chamber, where Among addressed the Speakers and Presiding Officers, expressing gratitude for their attendance.
“It means a lot to us because most Members of Parliament are new, so this is an achievement for them,” said Among. She emphasized the importance of fostering a good working relationship with MPs and highlighted their belief in the multi-party system.
Among encouraged Ugandan MPs and the public to seize the opportunity to network and share ideas with the visiting delegations to develop legislation that benefits Commonwealth countries.
The tour included stops at the creche, fitness center, and the Members’ lounge. Later, Speaker Among hosted the delegates for a dinner at the Ndere Cultural Centre in Kampala.
The 27th CSPOC, opened by President Yoweri Museveni, focuses on fostering fairness among speakers and presiding officers of the Commonwealth.
