The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House Uganda, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has brought charges against two town agents and two leaders of the Parish Development Model (PDM) Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCO) from Kabarole district. The individuals were presented in the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Fort Portal on allegations of extorting money from several members of various SACCOs and enterprise groups.

The accused are Kobusingye Esther, a town agent from Kibasi Ward in Kibasi Town Council, and Godfrey Busingye, a town agent from Kinyererezi Ward in Kijura Town Council. They are joined by Amanyire Fred, the chairperson of the Kabedde Ward PDM SACCO, and Mugabe Robert, the vice chairperson of the Kibedde Ward PDM SACCO.

According to the charges, the suspects fraudulently obtained money from PDM beneficiaries in the villages of Harubaho and Kyamuhoro in Kibasi Town Council, as well as Nyansozi village in Mugusu Town Council, between November 2023 and September 2024. They allegedly claimed that the money was a necessary requirement for processing the beneficiaries’ funds, which was not the case.

Following their arraignment, the accused were remanded in custody and are set to appear in court again on October 14, 2024.
