The Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant against Martha Nkwanzi, the daughter of the deceased businessman Henry Katanga. Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza granted the warrant on Monday, January 8, 2024, following a request from Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The charges against Nkwanzi include the destruction of evidence, a charge she shares jointly with her sister Patricia Kakwanza. Despite defense lawyer John Jet Tumwebaze informing the court that Nkwanzi was receiving treatment at home, Chief Magistrate Kakooza ruled that the court would not wait for her convenience and issued the arrest warrant.

Nkwanzi, who gave birth on November 19, 2023, had previously been issued a criminal summons that she did not respond to. The court also extended criminal summons against Molly Katanga, the wife of the deceased, who is charged with the murder. Molly is currently admitted to the International Hospital in Kampala, where she has been since the incident on November 2, 2023.

Henry Katanga, a prominent city moneylender, allegedly succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained during a verbal exchange with his wife at their residence on Mbuya Chwa II Road, Nakawa division, Kampala district. The prosecution contends that Molly Katanga caused her husband’s death with malice aforethought.

In connection to the murder case, George Amanyire and Charles are charged as accessories. Otai, a domestic worker at the deceased’s home, and Otai, a nursing officer who attended to the deceased after the incident, are implicated in the case.

A police report from Bugolobi police station revealed that Katanga was shot at close range, and no bullets or fragments were recovered from his body when it was delivered to the city mortuary on November 2. The body, wrapped in a mattress cover, was transported to Mulago hospital mortuary in a vehicle.

The investigation continues, with ongoing efforts to determine who moved the body. Police recovered a pistol, suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime, during their investigation.
