Chinese investor Hu Zheheng has been remanded to Luzira Prison in Uganda over allegations of falsely claiming ownership of Entec Electrical Equipment Company Limited. Zheheng is accused of fraudulent registration as the director of the company, which specializes in the manufacture of concrete electric poles. The charges include conspiracy to defraud and obtaining registration by false pretence.
According to reports, Zheheng, with his accomplice Jun Zhang (still at large), took advantage of the COVID-19 near-inactivity and the absence of the Director General, Chen Chao, to register themselves as the directors of the company. They allegedly claimed 50 shares each. Zheheng, the former director, and Zhang, the sales head, are facing charges under sections 309 and 312 of the Penal Code Act, with potential sentences of up to three years for conspiracy to defraud and one year for obtaining registration by false pretence.
During the court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi, Zheheng denied the charges. The Buganda Road Court Resident State Attorney, Joan Keko, requested an adjournment, stating that investigations are incomplete. The court will deliver its verdict on Zheheng’s bail application, considering the arguments presented by the defence and prosecution.
