The murder case involving five individuals, including the widow of the late businessman Henry Katanga, is scheduled to resume on Monday at Nakawa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kampala. Henry Katanga tragically died from a gunshot wound following a domestic altercation with his wife, Molly Katanga, at their residence in Mbuya on November 2, 2023.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo subsequently filed murder charges against Molly Katanga, alleging her involvement in her husband’s death. Additionally, charges of destroying evidence were brought against Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi for allegedly tampering with evidence at the crime scene. George Amanyire and Charles Otai face the charge of being accessories after the fact of murder, accused of aiding the suspects in avoiding punishment.

Molly Katanga, who was injured during the incident, has been receiving treatment at International Hospital Kampala and remains hospitalized. The other four individuals involved in the case are currently held at Luzira Prison as investigations continue.

The accused are expected to appear before Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza at Nakawa Court to receive updates on the progress of investigations into the matter.

According to a preliminary police report, the fatal shooting was reported on November 2 at Bugolobi Police Station. Henry Katanga was found lifeless with a gunshot wound to his head in the master bedroom. The report indicates that the daughter witnessed a heated argument between her parents, culminating in a gunshot. Molly Katanga was discovered unconscious on the ground and was subsequently rushed to IHK Hospital for treatment by family members.

Police retrieved a CZ99 compact pistol with the serial number UG16222 00061 during their investigation.
