The Hoima Chief Magistrates Court premises suffered a destructive fire that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident led to extensive damage to several case files.

The fire, believed to have ignited around 6 a.m. on Saturday, reportedly originated from the archives of the High Court. This area is located a short distance from the Albertine region police headquarters in Hoima East division.

According to Julius Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, residents alerted the police when they observed flames emerging from the court premises at approximately 6 a.m. The police’s fire and rescue team promptly arrived on the scene to contain the fire and secured the premises to initiate an investigation.

Hakiza mentioned that they are presently reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain the precise cause of the fire. As of the time of this report in the afternoon, the judiciary had not disclosed any information concerning the incident.

It is worth noting that in December 2022, unidentified individuals unlawfully entered the Hoima Chief Resident State Attorney’s office and set several files ablaze. These offices are situated along Hoima-Kampala road, in close proximity to the offices of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Hoima Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Albertine Regional Police headquarters, and District Internal Security Officer (DISO). The intruders gained access to the offices by cutting through the chain link and subsequently ignited multiple case files.
