Hoima High Court has initiated a criminal hearing session circuit in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, situated in Kyangwali sub-county, Kikuube district in a bid to enhance accessibility to justice and minimize transportation costs for witnesses. The session, inaugurated on December 11, 2023, at Kyangwali Grade One Magistrate Court, is scheduled to continue until January 15, 2024.
Resident judge Jesse Byaruhanga Rugyema, presiding over the opening, outlined the purpose of the session, emphasizing its role in addressing 35 criminal cases within the district. The cases to be handled include 20 related to murder, 10 of aggravated defilement, three of aggravated robbery, and two involving rape. The move underscores the court’s commitment to delivering justice while bringing legal services closer to the local community in Kyangwali.
