In a meeting chaired by Hon. Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Chairperson of the Small Claims Procedure (SCP) Implementation Committee, the Small Claims Procedure Registry organized its annual review meeting for courts under Iganga High Court Circuit. The meeting took place at Kaliro Country Resort in Kaliro.
The purpose of this gathering, led by HW Mastula Mulondo, was to allow implementers to exchange best practices, discuss challenges, and plan for improved performance.
Hon. Justice Kiryabwire emphasized the importance of accurate statistics submissions, as they are vital for assessing performance within the Registry.
He also commended Chief Magistrate Iganga, HW Koboko Epobu Daniel, for successfully recovering over Shs 200 million through SCP, much of it at the demand notice level, setting a positive example for others.
Hon. Justice Batema expressed that the SCP procedure is straightforward and encouraged participants to work towards its success in their respective jurisdictions.
The meeting was attended by at least 15 Judicial Officers and key staff responsible for SCP implementation under Iganga High Court Circuit. During discussions, it became evident that many courts encounter a significant challenge: companies attempting to bypass SCP rules by using proxies to file lawsuits on their behalf.
