Francis Zaake’s Disciplinary Hearing Postponed: Here’s Why

Francis Zaake, the Mityana Municipality legislator, is once again facing a disciplinary inquiry by a parliamentary committee. This article explores the reasons behind the deferment of the hearing and provides context to the situation.

The Delayed Hearing




The parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges, and Discipline was mandated to investigate allegations against Francis Zaake. The Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa, directed the committee to probe Mr. Zaake’s alleged derogatory remarks towards a female legislator, which occurred during the Independence Day celebrations on October 9 outside the Parliament Building.

Francis Zaake’s Legal Team’s Request

In response to the committee’s directive, Francis Zaake’s legal team requested to reschedule the hearing. According to Abdu Katuntu, the Rules committee chairperson, Mr. Zaake’s lawyers explained that Erias Lukwago, who has personal involvement in the matter, would be out of the country. The legal team suggested alternative dates for the hearing.




Rescheduled Hearing Date

Following Mr. Zaake’s legal team’s request, the committee decided to reschedule the hearing to November 6. This allows for a more convenient time for Mr. Lukwago’s participation. It is important to note that this will be the third time that Francis Zaake faces the same committee, and the previous matters are still pending resolution.

Francis Zaake expressed his determination to assert his rights within the parliamentary institution. He stated that his actions are not intended to create trouble but rather to uphold the rule of law. He believes in the freedom of expression and views himself as a responsible member of the institution.
