Crown Beverages Limited, the company behind Pepsi products, issued a statement on March 25, 2024, acknowledging concerns raised on social media regarding their Nivana brand of bottled water. The company emphasized that the matter is currently undergoing legal proceedings, and as such, they are refraining from making any comments in accordance with the sub-judice rules until the court processes conclude.

Despite their silence on the ongoing issue, Crown Beverages has asserted its rights to take legal action against any defamatory statements made about their products.

This announcement follows closely after Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, an exiled lawyer and novelist, shared a video on the X Platform alleging unsanitary practices at a Nivana Water Packing Plant and calling for a boycott of the product. Rukirabashaija further claimed that Nivana water is priced at a modest UGX 500 per bottle due to its supposedly substandard production conditions. He compared this to competing brands like Coca-Cola, which sell similar-sized bottled water at double the price of Nivana.

As of now, the details regarding the subject of the court action or case remain unclear.

The situation highlights the increasing influence of social media in shaping public perception and raising concerns about product safety and quality.
