Martha Nkwanzi, the second daughter of the slain entrepreneur Henry Katanga, is set to appear in court today in a significant development in the murder case of businessman. The charges against her revolve around the alleged destruction of evidence related to her father’s murder, as confirmed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Martha Nkwanzi voluntarily surrendered herself to the police, and the DPP’s office has indicated that she will be formally charged around midday today. The charges are linked to tampering with crucial pieces of evidence concerning the murder of her father.

The legal proceedings against Martha Nkwanzi began after Nakawa Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza issued an arrest warrant on January 9. This action followed her failure to comply with various criminal summons issued against her. It is noteworthy that Martha Nkwanzi gave birth on November 19, 2023.

Notably, Martha’s sister, Patricia Nkwanza, has been in custody since November 21, 2023, facing similar charges of destroying evidence in connection to their father’s murder. The allegations include tampering with a CCTV camera among other pertinent pieces of evidence.

Henry Katanga, a prominent city moneylender, allegedly succumbed to a gunshot wound on the left side of his head following a verbal altercation with his wife, Molly, on November 2, 2023, at their residence in Mbuya, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

Molly, who is currently hospitalized at the International Hospital in Kampala since the incident, is also facing criminal summons in connection to her husband’s death.

In addition to Martha and Patricia, George Amanyire and Charles Otai are charged as accessories to the murder. Amanyire, a domestic worker at Katanga’s home, and Otai, a nursing officer called to the scene after the incident, are implicated in the ongoing investigation.

The police report, filed at Bugolobi Police Station, indicates that Katanga was shot at close range, with no recovered bullets or fragments when his body arrived at the city mortuary on November 2. The report also details the mysterious transportation of Katanga’s body, wrapped in a mattress cover, to Mulago Hospital mortuary.

As investigations unfold, a compact pistol with the serial number UG1622200061CZ99, suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime, has been recovered by the police.
