Nakasongola District, Uganda – Police in Nakasongola have successfully recovered 38 suspected stolen cows and arrested ten individuals following a coordinated operation targeting rampant cattle thefts.
The crackdown, launched after a surge in reports on Thursday, June 12, 2025, reflects a broader effort to combat livestock theft in central Uganda.
According to ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, the operation was initiated in response to multiple cattle theft reports filed at Lwampanga, Migeera, and Nakasongola Central Police Stations.
Acting on intelligence leads, the Territorial Police conducted raids across the villages of Kansirye, Katitiza, Kakonde, Kitego, and Sasira, all located within Wabinyonyi Sub-county.
The targeted operation led to the recovery of the 38 suspected stolen cattle and the apprehension of ten individuals believed to be involved in the thefts.
“Of the ten suspects, three already had sanctioned case files for cattle theft awaiting court appearance,” stated ASP Twiineamazima. “The remaining suspects are currently under active investigation.”
Police are urging the public to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities or instances of livestock theft to local authorities. This operation is part of an ongoing initiative to curb livestock theft, a persistent issue that significantly impacts the livelihoods of farmers and communities in the region. Further updates are anticipated as investigations progress.
