The Apac district police are currently detaining a 15-year-old juvenile, whose identity is being withheld, for the purported murder of his father, Aliro Charles, aged 50, from Otucoluk Village, Aketo Parish, Ibuje Sub-County in Apac.
In a statement issued on Saturday morning, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson, revealed that the incident was reported to the police station by Ogwal Charles on January 3, 2024, at approximately 20:50 hours.
Reportedly, the juvenile suspect had been away at school in Kampala and returned home for the festive season to visit his parents. However, on January 3, 2024, at 20:00 hours, an argument erupted between the juvenile and his father, resulting in the suspect (name withheld) allegedly using a stick to strike his father, Aliro.
According to SP Okema, Aliro was hit once, collapsed, and unfortunately, died. Ogwal Charles, their immediate neighbor, was informed of the incident. He hastily removed the body from the scene and transported it to Apac Hospital Mortuary. Subsequently, he handed the suspect over to Apac police station.
The murder case was registered at Ibuje Police station, prompting a police visit to the crime scene, led by the DPC Apac and his team. The scene was reconstructed, and statements were recorded from witnesses present at the scene.
Ogwal Charles has also been arrested to aid in the police investigation. Authorities are looking into why he swiftly removed the body from the scene and took it to the mortuary before the crime scene team could conduct an assessment.
The body is currently at Apac Hospital’s Mortuary, pending a postmortem examination. The investigation is ongoing as the police work to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
