The territorial police in Amolatar District are holding 13 students on allegations of leading a student strike that occurred on April 25, 2024, around 22:00 hours.

According to SP Jimmy Okema Patrick, the police PRO for the North Kyoga region, it’s alleged that on April 25, 2024, around 22:00 hours, students of Muntu Seed Secondary School started a violent strike for reasons yet unknown.

Okema added that the strike progressed and led to malicious damage of school property, especially school furniture.

The strike was allegedly masterminded by students of S.3 and S.4, as stated by the police.

The students broke into the school food store and stole quantities of food items, including posho, beans, and cooking oil, among others.

The Amolatar police were notified, and a team commanded by the DPC responded to the scene and calmed the situation.

A total of thirteen ringleaders among the students were identified, arrested, and detained at Amolatar CPS.

Preferable charges of inciting violence and malicious damage are to be levied against the 13 students arrested and others yet to be identified.

No exhibits were recovered, and no serious casualties were registered. Police in the North Kyoga Region are saddened by the type of strikes students often get involved in towards the end of the term; students must understand why they attend school.

Moreover, police also condemn such acts of destroying school property but rather encourage students to use their positions of leadership to present their grievances to the school administration for proper action. Meanwhile, the school has been prematurely closed.
