Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a student at Kampala International University’s (KIU) western campus, identified as Boniface Opirin. Opirin, a first-semester student at the university’s School of Engineering, was found deceased in Cell D, Ishaka Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, on Sunday evening.

According to Mr. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the greater Bushenyi Police, the discovery was made around 12:30 PM when a fellow student went to dispose of water in the bathroom and found Opirin hanging. The incident was promptly reported to the authorities.

Ms. Jolly Kamukama, a local businesswoman, expressed her shock at the news, describing the deceased as a disciplined student. She urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Preliminary findings from the police suggest that the deceased had two packets of rat poison in his possession. Mr. Tumusiime noted that Opirin was found with a rope around his neck but had no other visible external injuries.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for postmortem examination as inquiries into the incident continue.
