Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the apparent suicide of a 46-year-old woman named Kyomuhangi Dinah, whose body was found hanging from a guava tree in Rwekitooma village on Sunday afternoon.
Noah Mukundane, the area chairperson, recounted a troubling phone call Dinah made to her son, Richard Kamusime, earlier that day. Dinah reportedly told her son to come see her, or he wouldn’t see her again. This chilling message cast a shadow over what was already a tragic scene.
According to residents, Dinah had been battling mental illness since her childhood, a struggle that may have culminated in this heartbreaking act. Marcial Tumusiime, spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the incident and noted the absence of external injuries on Dinah’s body, save for the telltale mark of the rope around her neck.
Authorities retrieved Dinah’s remains from the tree and transported them to Kampala International Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for a postmortem examination.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of Ms. Dinah’s death and whether any external factors contributed to her apparent suicide.
