(Mityana) – Eight individuals have been arrested by police in connection with a violent robbery in Mityana District, where a mobile money and bank agent was attacked and robbed of items valued at approximately 14 million Ugandan shillings. The robbery took place on the evening of October 10, 2024, as 37 year old Henry Mugwanya was ambushed while driving home with his wife.
According to Racheal Kawala, spokesperson for the Wamala Region Police, Mugwanya and his wife were attacked by a group of unidentified men wielding pangas and sticks in Buswabulongo Cell, Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality. The assailants reportedly blocked Mugwanya’s vehicle in a narrow road near his residence, threatening him with weapons and inflicting injuries before demanding cash and valuables.
The robbers reportedly took several valuable items, including six POS machines, a Samsung Galaxy A15, two Itel smartphones, and two Itel button phones. Kawala stated that these stolen items are collectively worth about 14 million shillings.
Following the robbery, a case of aggravated assault and robbery was filed at the Mityana Police Station, and an investigation was launched. Police efforts led to the arrest of eight suspects who reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.

Police conducted a search operation that led to the recovery of several items believed to be associated with the suspects and the robbery. Among the recovered items were a Samsung Galaxy A14 belonging to the victim, a Toyota Wish with registration number UBB 560K allegedly used in the crime, two motorcycles, pangas, marijuana, a Police Field Force Unit warm suit, handcuffs, jungle boots, and an army head dress.
