Police in Sipi have launched an investigation after a man identified as Calvin Chebet Sepchot allegedly swindled millions of shillings from tourists planning to visit Rafiki Lodge in Sipi.

According to Salimo Kenneth, the Director of Rafiki Lodge Sipi, Sepchot has been conning tourists by pretending to work for the lodge and issuing them fake invoices.

Salimo explained that Sepchot had previously been employed by the lodge to respond to client emails but was dismissed when the management discovered he had been diverting company revenue into his private bank accounts.

Despite his dismissal, Sepchot still had access to many of the lodge’s tourist contacts and reportedly used this opportunity to continue deceiving tourists by issuing fraudulent invoices. Salimo further revealed that Sepchot has not worked with Rafiki Lodge for the past three years but has continued to defraud tourists out of their money.

“Despite several warnings and verbal communications, Sepchot has remained uncooperative, prompting us to involve the police,” Salimo said.

According to Salimo, the total amount defrauded by Sepchot is over Ugandan Shillings 60 million.

The Ankole Times attempted to reach Calvin Chebet Sepchot for comment, but he was unreachable and did not answer calls.
