One person has died, and three others were seriously injured following a motor accident in Kirembe Cell along the Kasese-Bwera road in Kasese District.

The accident occurred on Wednesday evening when an unidentified driver of a Wish car with registration number UBR 686B, heading towards Bwera, collided with an incoming TATA truck registered as UAM 552L while attempting to avoid a stationary Sino truck registered as UBK 526X.

SP. Mbusa Luke, Acting Police spokesperson for Rwenzori East, attributed the accident to reckless driving and overspeeding. He added that investigations are underway to gather more details and apprehend the drivers of both vehicles, who fled the scene.

However, Aganatiya Bwambale, the Vice Chairperson of LC One for Kirembe Cell in Kasese Municipality, is urging the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to install speed bumps between Kirembe and Kikorongo due to ongoing issues with overspeeding.

Eyewitness Elias Mumbere emphasized the need for law enforcement to regulate trucks that frequently break down and are abandoned along the roadside.
