Two senior officials from the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) have been suspended following an order from the Inspector General of Government (IGG).
Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, the Deputy IGG, announced on July 23, 2024, that Aristarco Mujuzi Kasekende, the finance and accounting manager, and John Baptist Ahimbisibwe, the accountant at UPPC, are now barred from their positions. This suspension will remain in effect until the court completes its proceedings related to the allegations against them.
The decision to suspend these officials comes as a result of ongoing investigations into accusations of financial misconduct. The IGG’s office has issued this interdiction order to UPPC’s managing director, Prof. Sudi Nangoli.
The charges against Kasekende and Ahimbisibwe stem from an ongoing court case, where they, along with three other former employees, are accused of causing financial loss to UPPC. This case is based on Section 20(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009, as amended.
