The Uganda Police Force’s Criminal Investigations (CI) task team, in collaboration with Mukono CPS, has apprehended a suspect identified as Kaporonyo Sabiiti, aged 48, from Namugongo in Wakiso. Sabiiti stands accused of hacking into the mobile money systems of agents and dealers and subsequently pilfering funds from their agent lines.
Sabiiti allegedly amassed substantial sums of money through his illicit activities, targeting mobile money agents located in various regions including Mukono, Jinja, Misindye, Kiira division, Kinoni, and Nagalama. In an attempt to evade detection, he purportedly went as far as customizing his vehicle’s registration number plates.
However, law enforcement authorities were able to track him down, leading to the recovery of four Airtel lines and a hacking device. Additionally, his Toyota Harrier vehicle, bearing registration number UBD 612P and painted white, was impounded.
