The Okosa Executive Committee (Association of Old Boys and Old Girls of Old Kampala SSS) has highlighted a concerning situation involving malice orchestrated by mafias and certain board members targeting the school’s headmaster for removal.
During Mr. Suuna William’s one-year tenure as the school administrator, he exposed these mafias, who were allegedly working in conjunction with the board of governors. These illicit actions included fraudulent activities, embezzlement of school funds, and dubious deals, particularly regarding the sale of school land, notably the two sports grounds.
Mr. Suuna, a whistleblower, faced opposition from these mafias the moment he attempted to put an end to their nefarious activities. In response, former students of Old Kampala SSS joined the struggle to defend the school against these actions.
Fortunately, the board, heavily influenced by these mafias, is nearing the end of its term on November 4, 2023. They seem determined to depart alongside the headmaster.
Key figures among the board members, including Kasumba, the main supplier of school products, Piwanga, Ssekitoleko, and Emundu, were instrumental in the malpractice and power play within the school.
An incident occurred where the headmaster was detained after an intrusion into his office, leading to his arrest along with two other individuals. One of them, Luyima, a parent, visited the headmaster to appeal for his children to remain in school despite unpaid fees. However, the visit was misrepresented as an attempt to offer a bribe.
Luyima, a primary suspect, was taken to court, but due to a lack of evidence, the magistrate granted him bail. The headmaster, Mr. Suuna William, was given a police bond due to insufficient evidence.
Upon his return to the school, the expiring board, with only two weeks left in their term, had already attempted to replace him with Apolot, a deputy closely aligned with their interests. This action violates the Education Act, as the appointment of a headmaster is the prerogative of the Ministry, not the board.
The Association of Old Boys and Old Girls sends a stern warning to the board, cautioning them against taking the school for granted or continuing with such malevolent actions under the assumption that there will be no repercussions.
While initially choosing to remain silent on the matter to allow students to focus on their exams, the mafias are exploiting this time to disrupt the school’s operations.
The Association assures that they are vigilant and plan to take action soon to address the ongoing issues and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Okosa simple advise to UNEB as the institute that has a name to keep is to be sensitive with the issues of old Kampala sss or else they may end up being used by mafias who have their hidden agenda and at the end of the day UNEB will be taken to court for damages due to insufficient evidence.
Finally once again Okosa sends warning to the school board that they are watching and soon they are coming for them
