Two women have lost their lives in a suspected arson attack in a devastating incident that has left the community of Buliisa district in shock. The tragedy unfolded in Kamagongoro village, Walukuba parish, located within Butiaba sub-county.
The victims, identified as Dong’a and Iya, were both involved in the trade of alcohol. According to Abudalah Opio, the LCIII chairperson for Butiaba, the ill-fated incident took place within a grass-thatched house owned by an individual named Magali. Dong’a and Iya were in the midst of selling and consuming alcohol when the structure was deliberately set ablaze.
Tragically, the culprits behind this heinous act remain at large, and the investigation is currently underway. First responders from the vicinity arrived at the scene, only to find that it was already too late to rescue the victims or salvage any property.
Dong’a, described as a young niece who had recently come to visit her Aunt Iya, fell victim to this terrible incident. This marks the second unfortunate event to occur within a week in the same village, leaving the local community deeply concerned and distressed.
In the wake of this horrific incident, the bodies of the victims were transported to the Mortuary at Biiso Health Center IV. Meanwhile, the police have launched investigations into the matter, seeking to bring those responsible for this tragic loss of life to justice.
