Police in Bushenyi District have apprehended a 30 year old woman on suspicion of murdering her own three year-old child. The tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday in Muzira 1 Village, Kabare Parish, Kakanju Sub County, Bushenyi District.

According to authorities, the suspect, identified as the biological mother of the deceased, is alleged to have strangled her daughter around 8pm on Tuesday. Subsequently, she dug a pit in a nearby banana plantation, where she buried the young child’s body.

The chilling aftermath of the crime saw the suspect rush to Kijumo Health Centre II, ostensibly seeking medical attention. It’s reported that she contacted her husband from the health center, claiming to be unwell and expressing a desire to have a contraceptive implant removed. Her husband complied, paying 5,000 Ugandan shillings for the procedure.

However, upon returning home, the husband inquired about the whereabouts of their child, prompting further investigation into the matter. Police spokesperson Mr. Marcial Tumusiime described the harrowing sequence of events surrounding the incident.

The community is left reeling from the tragic loss of the young child, as authorities work to unravel the circumstances of her untimely demise.
