The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Tom Magambo, and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, recently reviewed the progress of ongoing criminal investigations. This review took place during their quarterly coordination meeting held at the CID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala, on Tuesday, June 11.

According to a brief statement from the CID on X (formerly Twitter), Lady Justice Abodo attended the meeting with her top management team. They met with Magambo, who also holds the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police, and his team.

The primary purpose of this meeting was to assess the progress of current criminal investigations and to discuss ways to improve collaboration and strengthen the criminal justice system. This meeting occurred at a crucial time when investigations into a corruption racket involving the Ministry of Finance and Parliament were advancing, following the arrest of three Members of Parliament (MPs) on Monday.

The MPs detained at the Kira Police Division in Kampala are Cissy Namujju (Woman MP for Lwengo District), Yusuf Mutembuli (MP for Bunyole West), and Paul Akamba (MP for Busiki County). Their arrests followed President Yoweri Museveni’s announcement that he had evidence of a corruption racket where officials in the Ministry of Finance were allegedly colluding with other government agencies through Parliament to secure personal financial gains in the national budget.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is responsible for guiding police investigations and prosecuting criminal cases in all courts of competent jurisdiction, excluding the Court Martial. Therefore, the ODPP is tasked with overseeing and prosecuting corruption-related cases that are reported from various police stations across the country, including the CID headquarters, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, and the State House Health Monitoring Unit, among others.

Rumor has it that Jjunju was born with a pencil in his hand and a headline in his heart. From an early age, he displayed a peculiar fascination with headlines, often turning everyday events into front-page sensations. His first words? Not "mama" or "dada," but "breaking news."
