Three individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the brutal killings of an eighteen-year-old senior six Vacist, Ruth Ainembabazi, and her mother, Francisco Bashaba, 49, from Nsiika Cell, Ntura parish, Mbarara district, . The grim discovery was made days after the mother-daughter duo went missing, their bodies found with heads smashed in their home.

At a joint security briefing on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the police headquarters in Naguru, Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, disclosed that the arrested individuals included Rosemary Kyohairwe, the co-wife of Bashaba, her step-son Julius Ainemukama (25), and Deus Musinguzi (55), Bashaba’s husband.

The timeline leading up to the tragic incident began with Francisco Bashaba visiting her brother in Nsiika’s cell along with her daughter, Ruth Ainembabazi. During this visit, Bashaba received a call from her husband, Deus Musinguzi, with whom she was reportedly having difficulties in their relationship. Musinguzi inquired about their location during the call.

Subsequently, the mother-daughter pair returned home. However, they were not seen again until January 6, 2024, when concerned residents decided to check their house. The gruesome discovery was made as both victims were found dead, their heads brutally smashed with a blunt object, as highlighted by Enanga during the media briefing.

While investigations into the incident continue, Enanga emphasized that the three detainees are considered the primary suspects due to ongoing family disputes. The territorial police in the Rwizi region and Mbarara district are actively involved in the investigation, aiming to shed light on the circumstances leading to the tragic deaths of Ruth Ainembabazi and Francisco Bashaba.
