October 23, 2023 | Nakasongola District | Fatuma Nagenda (6) and Hajara Nasuuna (4) | Mother tortures daughters over alleged theft | Police respond and arrest suspect |
A 27-year-old woman from Nakasongola, Justine Namuwonge, has been taken into custody for allegedly subjecting her two young daughters to severe torture. The victims, Fatuma Nagenda, aged 6, and Hajara Nasuuna, aged 4, were rushed to Kakooge Health Centre III for medical treatment. Both children were students at Kamukamu Nursery School in Kakooge.
The harrowing incident took place on October 23, 2023, at approximately 3:00 pm in Kyabutaika Kakooge town council, Nakasongola district. According to a statement released by Savannah Police region spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima on October 27, 2023, preliminary investigations suggest that the mother intentionally burned her children’s hands by igniting a charcoal stove. She believed that her daughters had taken her beans.
Shockingly, the mother allegedly chose not to seek medical care for her injured children. The police were alerted to the situation by Resty Kwagala, a 25-year-old teacher residing in Namunsaala zone, Kakooge town council.
In response to the distressing incident, the police promptly arrived at the scene, documented the crime, and registered a case of child abuse and torture. They recorded statements from relevant witnesses, arranged for the victims to receive medical attention at Kakooge HCIII, documented photographic evidence, and apprehended the suspect. Justine Namuwonge is currently detained at Kakooge Police Station.
The territorial police in Nakasongola are actively conducting an investigation into this deeply disturbing case of child abuse and torture involving two young girls.
