Police Launch Investigation into Gwanda Mall Shooting in Kisenyi

The Uganda Police Force has initiated inquiries into a shooting incident that took place on June 3rd, 2024, at Gwanda Mall, located in Kisenyi Parish, Kampala Central, around 6 PM.

According to reports, Kalyebi Ismail, a security guard working at SGA, was on duty at Gwanda Mall when he apprehended an individual named Katongole, whom he suspected of being involved in criminal activities. During the arrest, a struggle ensued between Kalyebi Ismail and Katongole, resulting in Katongole overpowering the security guard. In response to the threat, Kalyebi Ismail allegedly retrieved his firearm and shot Katongole once in the waist, incapacitating him.




Upon receiving information about the incident, the territorial police units of Muzaana and Old Kampala promptly responded to the scene. They successfully evacuated the victim to Mulago Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound to the stomach. Additionally, CCTV footage from the area has been retrieved to aid in the ongoing investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading up to the shooting.




The suspect, Kalyebi Ismail, is currently at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. The Uganda Police Force has urged the public to remain calm and report any information that may assist in the apprehension of the suspect.
