A Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces – Air Force (UPDF-AF) helicopter has crashed in Karugutu, Ntoroko district, raising questions about the incident.

UPDF-AF spokesperson Maj Naboth Mugisha characterized the crash as a ‘pure accident,’ assuring that details about the event will be disclosed once all relevant information is gathered.

The reports suggest that the two-member crew on board the helicopter did not survive the crash.

Mugisha stated that a comprehensive statement would be issued once the facts surrounding the crash are clarified.

“UPDF Airforce regret to report a helicopter crash in the general areas of Karugutu- Ntoroko. Details of the crash shall be availed later. But what is clear, is it is purely accidental,” he mentioned.

According to Mugisha, the crash site was in proximity to a house, where the helicopter allegedly hit a rooftop before catching fire and eventually being reduced to ashes. The house’s rooftop suffered a similar fate.

This incident follows a previous crash on July 29, 2023, when a UPDF helicopter, MI24 (Gun Ship), Reg. No. AF 822, crashed during routine operations in Karamoja. In that instance, all three aircrew members aboard remained unharmed.
