Two Men Dead After Entrance Gate Collapse in Kyengera

Two people died when a gate collapsed on them in Katale cell Bunamwaya parish in Kyengera town council Wakiso district. The deceased Mugerwa Joseph aged 22 and Ssemakula David 22 both residents of Nyanama, were erecting the entrance gate when the support pillars failed, causing a heavy slab to fall on them.

On Thursday, July 24, 2024, a tragic accident occurred in Kyengera Town Council, resulting in the death of two construction workers. The incident took place at the residence of Julius Mubir in Katale Cell, Bunamwaya Parish.

According to Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the entrance gate at Mubir’s residence collapsed unexpectedly, killing the workers on site. The victims were identified as Joseph Mugerwa, a 22-year-old resident of Nyanama, and David Semakula. They were working on the gate when the support pillars reportedly failed, causing a heavy slab to fall on them.




Despite quick intervention by community members who attempted to rescue them, Mugerwa and Semakula were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services from Ngobe, Kajjansi, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue services arrived promptly to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the collapse.




The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination. The police have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and are conducting a thorough investigation with the help of experts to determine the factors leading to this tragic event.
