The Police in Kabale District have arrested a suspect connected to the recent vandalism of pylons along the newly constructed 132 KV Mirama-Kabale-Karukara power line. Kabale District Police Commander, SP Charles Okello, confirmed the arrest in a statement, while withholding the suspect’s identity to avoid jeopardizing the ongoing investigation.
According to SP Okello, the arrested individual is believed to have acted as a transporter for the criminals involved in the vandalism. He assured the public of the police’s commitment to apprehending the remaining culprits and mitigating the threat of infrastructure sabotage.
SP Okello appealed to the community to assist in the investigation by providing any information that could lead to the capture of those responsible for damaging critical infrastructure and hindering regional development.
He acknowledged that intensified police operations in targeted areas might cause temporary inconveniences, but urged residents to remain calm, cooperative, and mindful of their shared responsibility in ensuring security and fostering development.
In addition to addressing the pylon vandalism, SP Okello highlighted ongoing efforts to combat motorcycle-aided thefts by Boda Boda riders within Kabale Municipality. He encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals involved in these crimes.
The police commander also emphasized the continued joint efforts of the police and military in combating vandalism and related crimes. He stressed the crucial role of community involvement in safeguarding public safety and protecting vital infrastructure.
