A Kagadi man, now under police watch, was accused of attacking and injuring a local resident with a panga. This incident, which took place in Kikonda village within Kiryanga sub-county, has led to the suspect, Everest Twagiryamungu, receiving medical treatment for injuries he sustained during a confrontation with the local community.
The altercation occurred on a Saturday afternoon around 4 pm when James Rwamire, the victim, was reportedly approaching his home compound. It was then that Twagiryamungu allegedly assaulted him with a panga, causing serious injuries. The noise of the attack drew the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to Rwamire’s aid, resulting in Twagiryamungu being beaten by the group before he managed to flee the scene.
Found hiding in a bush in critical condition from the injuries inflicted by the residents, Twagiryamungu was transported to Kyakalonda Medical Center for treatment. Julius Allan Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine region police, detailed the sequence of events leading to Twagiryamungu’s hospitalization. Hakiza confirmed that the suspect was under the protection of the police while recovering from his injuries at the medical facility.
The police spokesperson also announced that Twagiryamungu would be facing charges of unlawful wounding once his condition stabilized enough to allow for his transfer to police custody. This case highlights the community’s swift response to the alleged assault and the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to maintain peace and order within the region.
