Two young men have been arrested for allegedly stealing 3 million shillings from a mobile money agent in Bwebajja, Wakiso District. The suspects, identified as Kiseka Bahati and Edwin Bagaya, were apprehended by the police after a swift response to a call from the victim, Maria Mbadilemu.
Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, praised Mbadilemu for her quick thinking in contacting the Bwebajja Police station using the counter phone. This strategy is designed to enable the police to respond quickly to incidents.
The robbery took place at 11:00 PM on Sunday. According to Enanga, the suspects, who were armed with a pistol registered in South Sudan, were actually friends of the victim. This connection added a layer of betrayal to the crime.
During the investigation, the police recovered 1.5 million shillings and several mobile phones, which are being used as evidence to show how the robbery was planned.
Enanga shared these details while addressing journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Nakawa Division, Kampala. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation with law enforcement to ensure swift justice and maintain safety.
The investigation continues as the police work to recover the remaining stolen money and gather more evidence.
