A 49-year-old man faced nine charges, including aggravated defilement and trafficking in children, in the Mpigi Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Security officers raided the man’s home in Kayabwe town council and apprehended him from one of his shrines. He was then taken to Mpigi central police station for further investigation.

Known as a witch doctor, he operates several shrines in Butamba B village, Mpigi district, and is the father of over 10 children. He appeared before Mpigi Chief Magistrate, Jane Frances Nanvuma, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and was charged with eight counts of aggravated defilement and one count of trafficking in children.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly defiled his eight biological daughters, aged between 11 and 15 years, while at home.

Additionally, the court heard that between 2021 and 2024, in Najjera, Wakiso district, the suspect took a 15-year-old girl away from her mother without her consent.

The court did not allow the suspect to respond to the charges, as the offenses he faces are serious and can only be tried in the High Court. The magistrate advised him to seek bail from the High Court if he wished.

The State attorney, Drane Kansiime, informed the court that investigations into the case are ongoing. The suspect was remanded until May 21, when he is scheduled to appear in court again for further proceedings.

The 49-year-old, who is the father of multiple children, was arrested after some of his biological daughters reported to the police, accusing him of sexually assaulting them and infecting them with AIDS.
