Kawooya Abbey, the Chairperson of Namataba Namagunga PDM SACCO, was brought before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mukono today. The charges against him involve multiple counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

According to the allegations, between November 2023 and July 2024, Kawooya fraudulently collected money from numerous beneficiaries of the PDM (Project Development Management) scheme in Namataba Town Council, Mukono District. He purportedly claimed that the funds were required by the board to process PDM loans for the beneficiaries. Additionally, Kawooya is accused of punishing those who did not comply by removing them from the list of beneficiaries.

Following his arraignment, Kawooya has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on August 5, 2024.
