Patrick Okidi, Oyam – The territorial police in Oyam District are holding four suspects in connection to the death of Acio Betty from Dere Primary School, Angu Parish, Iceme Sub-County, Oyam District. This report was made to the police by a concerned citizen from Wangu-Lobo village, Akwirididi Parish, Aboke Sub-County in Kole District.
North Kyoga Region police PRO, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, stated that it’s alleged that Acio Betty, aged 43, a resident of Wanglobo village, had returned to her parents’ home after divorcing her husband, with whom she had five children. She later became involved in excessive alcohol consumption, and on May 13, 2024, at an unknown time, she was allegedly gang-raped, killed, and her body was hanged on a tree branch at Dere Primary School, where the body was discovered.
Police were informed and immediately proceeded to the scene of the crime, where it was documented, the body was removed, and conveyed to Anyeke Health Center IV pending postmortem. Four people have been arrested to support the investigation and possible charge of murder against them. They are:
- ADWERE DENIS
- AKWANGA JAMES
- OTIM JAMES
- OCEN BONNY
According to SP Okema, all of them are in police custody at Oyam CPS. Police have called for calmness from the relatives and pledged to do all it takes for justice to prevail.
