In Ntinda, Kampala, a recent police operation has uncovered a potentially dangerous situation, as one of the two arrested suspects was found in possession of a brand-new machete (locally known as a panga) on the night of October 31. This incident has sparked an investigation by the Kampala police.

The two suspects, who sustained injuries during a hot pursuit, were taken to the hospital for medical treatment under police guard. The motives behind their actions are not immediately clear, prompting authorities to delve deeper into the situation.

The incident unfolded during a routine night patrol in Ntinda on a Tuesday night around 10:30 PM. Sgt. Joshua Isabirye and his team encountered three individuals on a motorcycle in the Sempagala zone. When the suspects noticed the police officers, they attempted to flee, leading to a collision with the police motorcycles and causing injuries to both the riders and their crew.

The pursuit of the suspects continued, eventually resulting in a crash near Abed Bwanika’s church. It was at this point that the suspects were captured, and critical information was discovered, according to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan.

Although the motorcycle’s rider managed to escape during the chase, the two injured individuals were apprehended. They were identified as 23-year-old Derrick Kamira, a resident of Kiyembe in Makindye, and 19-year-old Sukura Onganyi, who resides in Kamwokya.

Upon searching Kamira, the police found a new machete (panga) concealed skillfully under his denim pants. This discovery raised concerns about the suspects’ potential criminal intentions in the area, as stated by Owoyesigyire.

The two suspects have been provided with medical care at China Hospital Naguru, where they are being closely monitored by the police. Simultaneously, the police have initiated an investigation regarding the possession of the deadly weapon by the suspects.

The motorcycle used by the three men, including the fugitive who managed to escape, has been secured as evidence along with the machete. The runaway suspect is currently being pursued by the police, according to Owoyesigyire.

The ongoing investigation will involve searches of the suspects’ residential homes and efforts to determine their potential criminal intentions within the area.
