Police in Kisoro are investigating the alleged strangulation of Joy Ntwari Nyiramugisha, a 64-year-old retired female teacher. Five individuals, including two Rwandan nationals, are under scrutiny in connection with the incident.
The suspects involved in the case are Angela Utuze, 22, a Rwandan national and bar attendant; Angela Muhawemana, 20, also a Rwandan national and bar attendant; William Nzamoye, 28, a boda boda rider; Isaac Nkurikiyimana, 27, a butcher; and Peter Ndagijimana, 20, a resident of Karumina village, Central Division, Kisoro Municipality.
On June 26, 2024, Ntwari, a resident of Kamonyi village, Northern Division, Kisoro Municipality, was found strangled in the boys’ quarters of her home. Prior to her death, she had recently sold a piece of land for 16 million Shillings.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, reported that the suspects were apprehended after a television remote controller belonging to Ntwari was discovered in a bar where they frequented in Kamonyi village. During police interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to strangling Ntwari with the intention of robbing her of the 16 million Shillings.
Currently, the suspects are held at Kisoro police station awaiting further investigation and eventual court appearance. The case has been registered under file number CRB 473/2024 at Kisoro police station. Born on October 3, 1963, Ntwari began her teaching career in 1986 and retired from Seseme Primary School
